  • ASUS, Digitex Container, Eline Flash USB Drive, Kingmax Hi-Speed Flash Drive, Luwen EasyDisk and X-M   [Review, Digit Life]
Today we have three USB 2.0 flash drives - as many as USB 1.1 models. In contrast to the previously tested drives, these ones use one controller instead of a tandem of two chips employed in three drives reviewed before. More progressive are getting more in number. On the other hand, an ordinary user is not interested much in the architectural peculiarities - what matters is how all that stuff works. But first of all, let's have a closer look at the contestants.

  • Samsung SP1604N and SP0411N Hard Drives   [Review, Digit Life]
Judging by the firmware version TM100-23 (and the code 2, which remains a mystery for me), the production model has a different firmware version. Beside the 160GB, Samsung gave us a "low-profile" drive of the PL40 line - SP0411N.

  • Data Fever: Ultra320 SCSI from Adaptec and LSI Logic   [Review, Tomshardware]
While the trend clearly favors serial ATA, we devote this article to the ultimate in hard-drive interfaces: Ultra320 SCSI. The parallel interface offers a high throughput rate even for the most ambitious applications and is, for now, indispensable to the professional sector. Here, we analyze two recent host adapters and compare them with Ultra160.

  • Western Digital Raptor WD360GD Serial ATAHard Drive   [Review, Digit Life]
We can witness the birth of the new class of rectangular buzzing boxes - ATA 10K drives. Until recently 10000 revolutions were reachable only for SCSI drives, but they were positioned for the corporate market. That is why average home and office users, who make a bit less than 100%, didn't take to heart the announcements of 10K and 15K drives.

  • SATA Hard Drive with a Kick: Western Digital's Raptor Put to the Test   [Review, Tomshardware]
Although it only serves up a meager 36 GB, it offers a lot more than you'd normally expect from an IDE hard disk drive. The Raptor, alias WD360 is a new hard disk drive that is attracting considerable attention to itself due to two major new features: it spins at 10,000 rpm and comes complete with Serial ATA. The highlight: it's supposed to be good enough to stand up against SCSI in the lower and middle server segment. Our test demonstrates whether this really stacks up.

Fast mechanics and remarkable lazy write algorithms made this drive even faster than some SCSI solutions. Learn more about this exciting product in our indepth review!

The drives were tested in four modes - with presets (acoustic level = fast), and with acoustic management off with drive connected to the ATA/133 controller and to the internal ATA/100 controller. When the scores for acoustic management on and off coincided I left the scores only for the Off mode.
