ECS PF4 Deluxe [Review, Hexus]
At just under £105 including dreaded V.A.T in the U.K., it's the same price as an ABIT AG8 and significantly less than the DDR-II toting ABIT AA8 DuraMAX, with better performance, features and a better bundle. That's not all. It's nearly £50 cheaper than ASUS's DDR-II Grantsdale board which has a comparable feature set. Providing you've got no trouble investing in DDR-II memory, the ECS PF4 Deluxe looks to be the best LGA775 mainboard we've yet tested at HEXUS, by quite a distance. ASUS P5GD2 i915P & P5AD2 i925X Premium [Review, Hexus]
Intel's 900-series of chipsets attempt to modernise motherboard design from almost every angle. The cost of such modernisation is mediocre speed and, perhaps, limited overclockability. ASUS has done a good job in releasing a couple of boards that are packed to the rafters with useful features, from dual Gigabit LAN to integrated WiFi. Given the P5GD2 Premium's P5AD2 Alderwood-matching performance, it has to be the pick of the two. So if you absolutely want to run the latest cutting-edge kit, it's a good a choice as any. My reservations, however, lie more with Intel's chipset than with ASUS' efforts. Thu, 05 Aug, 2004 | 74 Click(s) | Related: Reviews or Talks | Detail
Everything And The Kitchen Sink : Asus’s P5AD2 Premium 925X [Review, GamePC]
The Asus P5AD2 Premium is getting so much press due to its impressive amount of onboard components and functionality. The board goes above and beyond one's expectations of onboard peripherals, as it is loaded down with absolutely incredible array of features. Besides the basic Socket-775/DDR2/PCI Express functionality added by Intel's 925X chipset, Asus stuffs this platform with features such as dual PCI Express Gigabit LAN ports, 802.11G/B Wireless LAN, Dual Serial ATA/150 RAID controllers, Ultra ATA/133 RAID, Firewire 400/800, and 7.1 Dolby Digital Live High Definition audio, just to name a few. Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939 AMD Athlon 64 motherboard review [Review, a1-electronics]
Is it us or are motherboards a whole lot better than they were say 5+ years ago. We think so, and this K8NSNXP-939 is yet another top quality performance motherboard from Gigabyte.
If we have a grip it would be that the price of motherboards should be half. Thu, 05 Aug, 2004 | 56 Click(s) | Related: Reviews or Talks | Detail
ABIT AA8 DuraMAX [Review, Hexus]
The new platform's inherent downsides all manifest themselves with the AA8, given that it implements absolutely everything new. DDR-II is underwhelming, scarce and more expensive than DDR, PCI Express graphics cards are rarer than rocking horse poop and LGA775 CPUs are either hot, rare and expensive (3.6 P4 560), or not worth bothering about since they already exist on Socket 478, a socket that has many a brilliant motherboard. ABIT AG8 [Review, Hexus]
Given the AA8 as a base, the question to be asked of the AG8 is 'does its use of DDR memory make the platform any more attractive?' Again, personally, I have to answer that with a resounding 'no.' The only CPU you can get on LGA775, that you can't get on Socket 478, is the Pentium 4 560 at 3.6GHz. With that CPU costing as much as a very decent Socket 939 processor from AMD and the rest of the LGA775 CPU range available on Socket 478, the changes you'd need to make to move to the AG8, even taking your existing DDR memory with you, are too much of a sacrifice. ASUS A8V Deluxe Wireless Edition S939 Motherboard [Review, Hexus]
ASUS has waved its deluxe wand over a socket-939 motherboard with encouraging results. Deluxe means a horde of useful goodies. ASUS obliges with Gigabit Ethernet, 54g Wireless, FireWire400, on-chip and discrete SATA and decent sound. Packaging and presentation is usual ASUS, that is, first class. We were also pleased to report that the board ran flawlessly with the strictest memory timings. Performance, as our graphs have shown, was excellent, so much so that S940 is firmly relegated into third place, behind our test Model 3800+ and the S939 FX-53. Chaintech Zenith ZNF3-250 [Review, Hexus]
Being first to market with a particular product, if done correctly, can often pay huge dividends. New chipset iterations are followed by a flood of motherboards from anyone who's anyone, so getting it right immediately puts a manufacturer in the driving seat. That's exactly what Chaintech has sought to do by releasing one of the first commercially available nForce3 250 boards. Ryszard took a look at the chipset, here, so familiarise yourself if need be. Asus A8V Deluxe "Wireless Edition" [Review, HotHardware]
It has been barely over a week since we first took a look at AMD's new Socket 939 Athlon 64s, and motherboards equipped with the new socket have already started to arrive in the HotHardware Labs. The first motherboard to land on our test bench is the fully-loaded Asus A8V Deluxe "Wireless Edition". The A8V Deluxe is powered by VIA's excellent K8T800 Pro chipset, and sports a host of useful features like SATA RAID, Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi and 8-Channel audio with digital outputs. It's also "Cool 'N Quiet" capable and has wide array of BIOS options geared towards novice and advanced overclockers alike. Looking at the feature set, it seems like Asus is trying to make a big splash in the Socket 939 market from the get go. However, as we've said many times before, features, bells and whistles are great but stability and performance are king. So, let's fire her up and see what this baby is made of. Gigabyte does SiS - 655TX hits the shelves for Pentium 4 [Review, TweakTown]
The 655TX is the latest creation to come from SiS, a rather small member of the chipset community now Intel has its own breed of DDR chipsets. Once the savoir of the Pentium 4 with the 645 series of chipsets, SiS has faded into the background somewhat these days. The 655TX is aimed to change all of that.
Today we will see the Gigabyte adoption of this chipset and just how well it can perform against the highest powered chipsets available today, the Intel 875P and VIA PT880. Tue, 04 May, 2004 | 24 Click(s) | Related: Reviews or Talks | Detail
