  • Ultra Products PC3200 XL 2-2-2 DDR Memory   [Review, Bjorn3d]
Before releasing the X-Connect power supply and becoming a household name virtually over night, Ultra Products was slowly releasing more and more products and hitting the retail shelves at CompUSA and Fry's. Before the big Samsung TCCD IC boom, Ultra had already released some memory modules and had proven that the company can provide a decent stick of RAM. Now, Ultra is the latest company to jump on the Samsung TCCD memory chip bandwagon, which is actually a good thing to be on. The Samsung TCCD ICs have really leveled the playing field like never before it seems. Now, any company that can get ahold of some of these chips and create some memory modules is able to compete with the big boys, like Corsair, Kingston and OCZ, because the Samsung TCCD chips are just that good. Of course, the companies are still trying to distinguish themselves from each other by adding blinking lights or using superior PCB for even better overclocking, but who would have guessed a couple months ago that you could compare Ultra memory to Corsair, and it actually be a fair fight? Ultra obviously has a long way to go before it will be listed in the enthusiasts' top five, but its new PC3200 XL modules are definitely a step in the right direction.

  • Kingston HyperX Ultra Low Latency PC3200 Review   [Review, mikhailtech]
Removing one of the heat spreaders reveals the bread and butter of low latency memory: Samsung TCCD chips. These bundles of overclocking joy are rated up to 250MHz (albeit at more relaxed timings) and can top out well past that point. An important thing to note is that memory "overclockability" in general (much like processors) is more or less hit-or-miss. Samsung's TCCD chips may be rated for 250MHz and the majority of people who own RAM utilizing these modules can get similar results, but there's no guarantee other than the specified rating. In other words, it's entirely possible (though highly unlikely) that you could end up with a PC3200 HyperX stick that only runs at PC3200.

  • Are Samsung TCCD IC's Dead?   [Article, legitreviews]
From what we found out today from Corsair, Kingston, and Mushkin is that the memory industry is not worried about the recent concerns dealing with Samsung ending production on the TCCD IC's. To be honest not once were the words discontinued or EOL (End of Life) used in our conversations. If you were one of the people this morning running around telling all your friends to buy TCCD based memory today you now know that is not the case...

  • Value Versus Performance Notebook Memory   [Review, LegitReviews]
Now that building your own notebook has become a trend among enthusiasts, the hardware industry is starting to offer more options for consumers. When it comes to notebook memory, you used to only have one choice, value memory. Last year, Corsair memory changed all that when they launched an XMS SO-DIMM part that was Low Latency (LL)...

  • Kingston 1024MB PC2700 SODIMM Review   [Review, mikhailtech]
This particular stick is built specifically for Dell Inspiron notebooks (hence the "KTD-INSP5150/1G" label on the sticker). To fit 1GB onto a single board, Kingston used a total of 16 small modules, each 64MB in capacity. The markings on the chips are "SEC 434 NLB3" (first row), "K4H510838B" (second row), and "AUG537XX" (third row). The RAM is rated at 166MHz DDR (333MHz effectively), i.e. DDR333 or PC2700. I'll be comparing it to a pair of 256MB Hynix sticks that came with the laptop originally. Although the capacities are different, both memory sets use a total of 16 modules at 64MB each.

  • Corsair XMS Xpert Memory   [Preview, Hexus]
When it comes to products with a 'cool factor', Corsair's XMS Xpert memory definitely has a lot going for it. An LED display on your RAM? Which can accept custom messages of your choosing? That's beyond cool, and entering the realms of genius. Putting that to one side, there's also a practical use for this product too, particularly for the keen overclocker who wants to keep a close eye on all his system components - What better way to keep tabs on your memory than through the display seen here? Even in an enclosed case, there's still Corsair's Memory Dashboard to monitor all the vital statistics of your precious RAM modules.

  • Corsair Rev2 PC3200XL 2-2-2 Memory (TWINX1024-3200XL)   [Review, Bjorn3d]
How do you improve such good RAM? Well, you don't change too much. At the heart of the new revision of the 3200XL modules are the same Samsung TCCD chips that were used in the original 3200XL sticks (and now in many competing products). The main difference between the old and new XL's is the PCB (printed circuit board). Corsair made some design enhancements to the PCB in order to support higher top-end clock speeds. That adds up to the new 3200XL overclocking to high speeds with more success than the old one.

  • Mushkin 1GByte (2x512MB) Level-II PC3200 RAM   [Review, Hexus]
Mushkin has evidently seen the fantastic flexibility of Samsung's latest performance ICs, ranging from ultra-low latencies through to high MHz speeds with relaxed timings, and used them in its latest iteration of high-performance RAM. It's needed to, really, as Corsair and OCZ already have 2-2-2-5 PC3200 modules available right now. Performance-wise, there's not much to say other than it's predictably excellent memory.

  • Corsair TwinX1024 4400C25PT 1Gbyte Matched Memory   [Review, Hexus]
Whichever way you cut it, DDR550 memory is extremely useful when the only means of radically raising CPU speed, and by inference performance, is to crank FSB to 275MHz+. It would make a perfect partner to a setup consisting of, say, AMD's Athlon 64 3000/3200 and/or Intel's Pentium 4 2.8GHz/3.0GHz processors. These processors often overclock to 250MHz+ FSB with relatively innocuous cooling, and having synchronous RAM allows you to extract maximum bandwidth and performance from said setup.

  • Corsair 1GByte DDR2 Twin2X Matched Memory Pair   [Review, Hexus]
DDR2 memory is here to stay. Intel has decided that future scalability is more important than immediate performance. Corsair's 1GBye DDR2 Twin2X pack debuts in at a blistering DDR533 speed. Just in case it sounds slow, that's high-end, premium DDR territory. What's more, Corsair is already marketing DDR2 that runs at, wait for it, an effective speed of 667MHz.
