  • ATI's Mobility Radeon X700 Launch   [Article, Hexus]
Performance is quoted as being twice that of Mobility Radeon 9700, something I'm inclined to mostly agree with, given their relative architectures. So to sum up, in the absence of any samples or comparisons with NVIDIA's upcoming announcements in the same sector (Seiko would be proud), Mobility Radeon X700 has some serious on-paper promise, based on the presented information ATI have given to press for today.

  • Rock Quaddra 64 3.7 Laptop   [Review, Hexus]
All in all, Rock's Quaddra 64 3.7 is a tasty desktop-replacement laptop that oozes power. An AMD Athlon 64 3700+ makes short work of 2D tasks and a 128MB Mobility RADEON 9700 takes most games in its stride. For the asking price of £1408 (inc. VAT) I'd like to see Rock specify 802.11g Wireless connectivity as standard, and, perhaps, a touch more system RAM. Christmas is just around the corner. Perhaps it's time to ask Santa for something special, courtesy of Rock?

  • ATI Mobility X300 & X800   [Review, LegitReviews]  Most popular reviews and articles
The Mobility X800 proved to be able to play some of the most current game tittles. We played Doom3, FarCry, and Half-Life 2 on the Mobility X800 at 1600x1200 and the games were smooth. In Half-Life 2 playing at 1024x768 with 4xAA & 8xAF we got over 60FPS, which is amazing for a notebook...

  • NVIDIA's GeForce 6800 Go vs. ATI's M28: The Mobile GPU Wars Begin   [Review, AnandTech]
Not too long ago, NVIDIA's mobile GPUs were a joke as far as market penetration was concerned. More recently, NVIDIA has made some gains but still yields to ATI as the dominant force in the discrete mobile GPU market. Today, NVIDIA is hoping to start to further erode ATI's mobile market share with the release of their very first NV4x derived mobile GPU - the GeForce 6800 Go.

What can one say. It works for us and does exactly what it says it does. You cannot ask for more than that. We especially like the multi-function smart card reader included at the front and the additional USB 2.0 ports at the back.

  • Mobile CPU Showdown : P4 vs. P4EE vs. P-M. vs. Athlon64   [Roundup, GamePC]
Here at GamePC, we found ourselves with the unique opportunity to test out the four fastest mobile platforms on the market today. On the Intel side, we have Intel's high-end Pentium-M 755 (Dothan 2.0) GHz processor for the thin and light markets, while we have the Pentium 4 3.4 GHz Extreme Edition in a mobile design for the desktop replacement markets. For AMD, we have the fastest of their Mobile/DTR product lines, with the Athlon64 3400+ DTR, which is tuned for the light and performance markets along with the Athlon64 3700+, which can be run in a mobile form factor for the desktop replacement markets. All of these notebooks are paired with ATI's Mobility 9700 graphics processors, so for once; we can get solid mobile performance numbers across these greatly varied platforms, and finally answer the questions of whose performance reigns supreme in the notebook realm.

So this article is a quick shootout on a few synthetic tests and benchmarks, along with some UT2003 real world testing, to get a handle on one facet of mobile performance. A proper real world test with our usual game suite will hopefully come at a later date. This article is in the same vein as my recent 6800 Ultra preview, a technical analysis of sorts.

  • Dothan Arrives With A New Nametag : Intel’s Pentium-M 735   [Review, GamePC]
Today at GamePC, we're looking at the first major update to the Pentium-M CPU platform since the original chips were announced. Intel has managed to scale the original Pentium-M CPU's (codenamed Banias) from 1.3 to 1.7 GHz, but Intel's 0.13 micron manufacturing process appears to be tapped out at this point. Now, Intel is getting a new set of Pentium-M processors on the market (codenamed Dothan) which feature clock speeds up to 2.0 GHz, a whopping 2MB of on-die L2 cache, and enhanced processing abilities all around. Let's have a look under the hood.

  • SavRow Razor 1.7 Laptop   [Review, Hexus]
Laptops can generally be subdivided into three groups. On the one hand, there's the so-called thin-and-light or ultra-portable laptops which weigh in at sub-2.5kg. As the name suggests, portability is high on the priorities list, so much so power-sapping components are eschewed in favour of longer battery life. Intel's Centrino technology is often used as a base. The middle ground, which is reckoned to be 2.5kg-3.5kg, is populated by a vast number of laptops that carefully balance the criterias of price, power and portability. The 3Ps, if you will. Various mobile CPUs and semi-decent graphics adapters make them a good bet for most users. Then there's the heavyweight desktop-replacement models that focus on the very latest performance components. The price to pay for such power is, often, a base weight in excess of 4kg. Dell's goliath Inspiron 9100 springs (that's not an apt word, is it?) to mind.
