Quote:Thus, dual-core Opteron processors were born. In hindsight it's easy to see that moving their processors to dual-core (and eventually multi-core even further down the line) was something that AMD's engineers had planned for all along. Still, that does not take away from the fact that today's dual-core Opteron processors are engineering marvels, stuffing an enormous amount of processing power into the same Socket-940 form factor we've used since mid-2003, while at the same time producing less heat and consuming less power. If you thought AMD was on a hot-streak lately with their K8-based Athlon64 products, you haven't seen anything yet.
