Creative MegaWorks 5.1 THX 550 Active 5.1 Acoustic System
The current top model of the 5.1 acoustic systems from Creative couldn't pass by our test lab. The new set of speakers is named MegaWorks 5.1 THX 550. This system is based on the previous model MegaWorks 5.1 510D, but the key fact is that this is the first Creative's system sporting the THX's logo. ECS EZ-TV (TVP3XP) TV&FM Tuner Review [Review, Digit Life]
I was quite surprised being asked to examine a TV- tuner from ECS. No secret that ECS (Elitegroup Computer Systems) is the largest supplier of budget-level mainboards. At the same time, the company makes efforts to cover other market sectors - notebooks, barebone systems, video cards, peripherals etc., that is why taking over the sector of tuners mustn't have looked strange, but it, nevertheless, surprised me. I wonder whether ECS can fight on the field occupied by AverMedia, FlyVideo, Pinnacle Systems. And I was quite skeptical when started testing this device especially because not every ECS mainboard makes a positive impression... Fri, 08 Aug, 2003 | 527 Click(s) | Detail

Cooler Master Wavemaster [Review, hexus]
I’d expect that if you have been regular readers of HEXUS.net you will know we are great fans of Cooler Master cases and try to review each case they release. Over the past few years Cooler Master have been the leaders in aluminium computer cases. I suppose they are what I would call, the Rolls Royce of computers. Recently they have launched 2 new cases. The Wave Master and The Centurion. Previous Cooler Master cases have always been named using numbers, e.g. 201B, 210B, 710, etc. With the launch of these 2 brand new cases, Cooler Master have decided to stray away from the old naming convention and start to use a different format. The Wave Master is labelled TAC-T01. I’m assuming this won’t be used much and the case will just be known as the Cooler Master Wave Master. Dell 2005FPW 20” LCD Review [Review, mikhailtech]
My model has significant backlight bleeding from the top right, top left, and bottom right corners. I didn’t notice this at all until I previewed the “Blank Screen Saver” included with Windows XP in a slightly lit room. In virtual darkness (with the exception of a blue LED in my computer to the monitor’s right), it became very noticeable. Looking at pictures of the issue online, I would say that I’ve received a fairly average backlight bleed. To test for the significance of this, I viewed the monitor in dark and light environments from both close and far away. Sun, 16 Jan, 2005 | 826 Click(s) | Related: Reviews or Talks | Detail
Dell UltraSharp 2001FP Preview: Gaming LCDs for the Masses [Preview, AnandTech]
It's been a little while since we had a recent LCD review, so we are coming back at you strong with something special. Dell recently unveiled its 2001FP LCD as an exclusive bundle with the Dell XPS workstations. Inevitably, this will be the replacement of Dell's existing 1600x1200 LCD, the 2000FP. Although these units will not be available for retail sales until Q1'04, we have been assured that the monitors shipping with the XPS systems are identical to the retail models next year. Dualing Panels - Two Fast 17 Inch LCD Monitors Compared [Review, GamePC]
Today at GamePC we're looking at this issue from two separate angles. On one side, we have Samsung's new Syncmaster 172X, which is the first screen on the market to boast a pixel refresh of 12ms. This monitor is certainly aimed at gamers and power users, and is one of the most expensive 17" LCD monitors on the market. On the other side, we grabbed an E-Yama 17NE1-S 17" LCD, which is a relatively unknown model here in the U.S, but it boasts a pixel refresh rate of 14ms, and costs about 1/3rd less in comparison to the 172X. Considering the pure pixel refresh rates of the screens, both should be fantastic at games, but is that really the case? Let's investigate further. Dell Inspiron 8600 [Review, Hardwarecentral]
Dell's new desktop replacement looks like the old one, but there's new hardware behind and beneath the 15.4-inch, wide-aspect-ratio screen -- like Intel's 1.7GHz Pentium M and Nvidia's blazing GeForce FX Go5650. Hardware Central's got one of the first hands-on tests of the mobile multimedia and game racer debuting today. Fri, 29 Aug, 2003 | 2602 Click(s) | Related: Reviews or Talks | Detail

EPoX 8RDA3G nForce2 Ultra 400 [Review, Hexus]
The nForce2's bandwagon keeps rollin'. That's in spite of VIA's, and SiS' to a lesser extent, push for present Socket A performance leadership. However, with rumblings of hither-to unseen performance from AMD's very latest 64-bit CPUs, 32-bit AMD processors will soon be shoved out of the limelight. Right now, though, the Barton and nForce2 bundle is pretty appealing, especially with the jam-packed nForce2 providing all manner of integrated extras. GigaByte GA-7N400 Pro [Review, Nextgenelectronics]
The first nForce2 AMD chipset motherboard review is a doozy - this lean and mean piece of hardware from GigaByte proved to be one of the best motherboards we've ever seen. Boasting AGP8X, Dual Channel DDR, FSB400, Serial ATA, on-board USB2.0, FireWire, and Ethernet, this is one cool product! Sat, 26 Jul, 2003 | 1253 Click(s) | Related: Reviews or Talks | Detail
Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro [Review, Subzerotech]
One of Gigabytes newest offerings, the GA-7N400 Pro, is based on Nvidias new nforce 2 ultra 400 chipset which is definitely going to be a favorite among overclockers. The only difference it has compared to the original nforce 2 chipset is official 400mhz fsb support. It of course comes with all of gigabytes typical features, which include Xpress3, Dual Bios, and Easy Tune 4. Also, it has Gigabytes attractive blue pcb and fluorescent green, blue, and orange slots, which will surely be loved by people with windows on there case...

Dual Opteron Duel : MSI K8T Master2 vs. Tyan Thunder K8W [Review, GamePC]
We took a first look at Tyan's super-sized dual Opteron workstation platform, the Thunder K8W, a few weeks back. We found the platform to be a little on the "early" side, but now that shipping versions of the BIOS are out there, and AMD has finally released full (and certified) chipset and AGP drivers, we're taking a quick second look at this motherboard. We also now have a good set of 400 MHz ECC/Registered modules, which will also show improved performance on this platform. Wed, 15 Oct, 2003 | 2039 Click(s) | Related: Reviews or Talks | Detail
