  • ATI's Theater 550 PRO Video Processor   [Article, Hexus]
ATI have used the, now venerable in some sense, Rage Theater 220 video processor in various products for the past couple of years or so. The advent of an ever increasing number of home theater and PVR-based PC products has caused them to think about upping the bar in video quality, capabilities and performance, compared to their competitors. A new Theater processor was always on the cards, indeed I first heard about one back at the start of the year, and today marks its official announcement.

  • Philips PSC724 Ultimate Edge Review   [Review, nextgenelectronics]
The performance of the PSC724 Ultimate Edge sound card is impressive, and the value of the card which is priced competitively at $69.99 gets high marks. The coolness factor of the card gets good marks, as anyone who considers themselves an audiophile would know the difference this card provides.

  • ADS Tech Instant TV USB 2.0 TV Tuner   [Review, Bjorn3d]
The convergence of electronic entertainment devices such as TV's, DVD players, and stereos with personal computers is finally starting to happen. Purpose- built computers with direct support from Microsoft in the form of Windows XP Media Center Edition are available now. Even better news for the do-it- yourselfer is the availability of devices and software to create your own Home Theater PC (HTPC). Building a low budget HTPC was on my list of summer projects and this effort was greatly facilitated by the arrival of ADS Tech's 'Instant TV' USB 2.0 TV Tuner.

  • NVIDIA's ForceWare Multimedia - An In-House Production   [Article, AnandTech]
We have been waiting to take a look at NVIDIA's ForceWare Multimedia application since December of 2003, when we had our GeForce FX Personal Cinema Roundup. The biggest issue that we had back then was the lack of an in-house software solution from NVIDIA, since they turned to Intervideo's WinDVR, which, as a software solution, wasn't even designed to accompany the Personal Cinema cards in the first place.

  • Leadtek Winfast TV2000 XP Deluxe TV Tuner   [Review, BigBruin]
Fresh from completing my review of the Transcend TV-Box USB 2.0 TV tuner (reviewed here), I thought I'd take a closer look at the card I mentioned so often as a point of reference. The Leadtek Winfast TV2000 XP Deluxe is a feature-rich TV tuner that will allow any computer with an available PCI slot to enjoy TV, as well as capturing capabilities, and digitally tuned FM radio.

  • Transcend TV-Box USB 2.0 TV Tuner   [Review, BigBruin]
With all of the products available to make your computer seem less like a desktop tool and more like a high end media center, one of the components that lacks the popularity you might expect is the TV tuner card. There are sound cards capable of 7.1 channel stereo, high powered speaker systems, AGP cards displaying on big screen monitors/televisions, and broadband internet for streaming media. But, what about one more entertainment goodie for your computer? The Transcend TV-Box USB 2.0 TV Tuner is an external TV tuner that will allow any couch potato with a computer to ditch the couch while still enjoying TV.

  • Zalman ZM-RSA 5.1Ch Head Amp   [Review, Bit-Tech]
Headphones can offer several advantages over using loudspeakers. The main two being they allow for personal listening without disturbing others such as late night listening to loud music whilst the rest of the household sleeps. Also, it is much easier and cheaper to produce very high audio quality headphones than their equivalent quality loudspeakers.

  • Altec Lansing MX5021 Review   [Review, Neoseeker]
ltec Lansing is always a company at work, new product lines appear on the shelves almost overnight and often they are designed with a specific user base in mind. During the past year Altec Lansing has started to fall out of the high end market, driving many users to abandon ship and move onto the Klipsch and Logitech bandwagons. As time passed new products arrived but still they failed to provide competition to the top contenders. After the VS4121 it became apparent that Altec was onto something but it was not right at the moment. Months passed and soon the new breed from the company came forth, the MX5021 came up as the gaming/multimedia target system. New features include dual midrange drivers and a redesigned subwoofer. One of the new barriers to entry into the computer speaker market is THX certification and the THX certification logo is proudly emblazened on the front putting away a long enduring complaint. The MX5021 is a new chapter for Altec Lansing. Will it open up a welcome door and beckon to the enthusiasts once again? Let's find out!

  • Linksys WMA11B Review   [Review, DesignTechnica]
We really wanted to like this product. We had high hopes for a product that plays both music and images, by the home networking industry leader at a price point of less than $150. We had hoped this would be the product to put networked media devices on the map – it just isn’t the device to do it. There are just too many design flaws and performance issues.

  • Logitech Bluetooth Headset   [Review, DesignTechnica]
The overall experience with the Logitech Mobile Bluetooth Headset was one of pleasure and relatively few drawbacks. The $99.95 price point is low compared to other headsets on the market, and the features you get make it a solid buy despite the rare sound glitch.

  • ATi Remote Wonder II   [Review, Bytesector]
ATI is a leading competitor in the video card market, alongside NVIDIA. In 2002 they brought out the Remote Wonder (RWI) multimedia remote control along with the Radeon 8500. Today I will take a look its successor, the Remote Wonder II. The Remote Wonder II has undergone a few changes, comes with a new button arrangement, and a new receiver. It supports a 60 foot range using RF frequency (operating at 433 MHz) which has been doubled from the original 30 feet. The remote itself is much longer than the original, but uses fewer batteries and therefore less power. Let’s take a closer look at the finer details of this remote and see if it’s worth upgrading.

  • Logitech Z2200 2.1 THX Speakers   [Review, Bit-Tech]  Most popular reviews and articles
What can I say, they sound awesome. No distortion even at wife-angering levels. High, mid, and low ranges are all reproduced very well and the sound is very responsive. Given that the critical elements at play here are virtually the same as on the Z-680's that's no real surprise.

  • Hercules DJ Console review   [Review, Guru3d]
A few weeks ago Hercules did a nice marketing gimmick, they released a photo on the internet with a product covered by some clothing. Speculation broke loose and well, some of us even figured that the new product would be a Volari Duo based graphics card. Luckily we figured it out in about 12 hours as Hercules made a small booboo, they issues a press release on the product before and I had some images of it stored on my HD (see, that's where 0.6 terabyte is good for).

  • Winamp Remote   [Review, bit-tech]
Remote control for the PC is not new but neither is it particularly common. Companies like Creative have bundled remote control into some of their top range products, but these are the exceptions rather than the norm. Until recently the need for a PC remote control has been limited, mainly due to the fact users are usually sat in front of their computers with all controls within arms reach. But things, they are a changing. More and more people are now starting to make real use of their PC's multimedia facilities. What was once considered something that only students away at university did, is now finding a place in the home, even the living room. Using the PC as a HiFi, DVD player, even a complete home theatre system is common now, and all of those devices have traditionally been remotely controlled! That said, there is a surprising dearth of add-on remote control systems for the 21st century PC.
