  • 64-bit Drivers Compared : New Releases From ATI and nVidia   [Article, GamePC]
Here at GamePC, we've been following the development of Microsoft's 64-bit consumer-level operating system for some time. Originally set to be out by this time, Microsoft's Windows XP for 64-bit Extended Systems (commonly known as XP 64-bit) is of critical importance for AMD. Having Microsoft code an entire operating system solely around AMD’s proposed 64-bit specifications has proven to be a huge victory for AMD. If the OS is released before Intel gets their consumer-level 64-bit chips on the market, AMD has the chance to permanently associate their name with 64-bit technology.

  • Noise-Free NV36 : Gainward’s SilentFX Ultra/980 256MB   [Review, GamePC]
Today at GamePC, we're taking a look at another retail implementation of the same basic technology which Zalman has pioneered, but taken to another level. Zalman's new SilentFX series of cards is looking to bring high-end graphics power with silent cooling systems to the mass market. The first model in their line is the SilentFX Ultra/980, which is based on nVidia's GeForceFX 5700 graphics processor. This is much more than a case than a consumer-level card strapped together with a silent cooling system, rather, Gainward has gone above and beyond to create a powerful graphics card for professionals who need absolutely zero noise.

Today we're looking at one of the first Radeon X800 Pro cards to hit the market from Sapphire. Sapphire, along with PowerColor and Celestica, has been able to push out X800 Pro cards within two weeks of the product launch. Sure, they're all based on ATI's basic X800 reference design, but for the vast majority of gamers, this really doesn't matter. They want these new cards as soon as possible, and Sapphire has been the first to get their product out to the U.S market. Let's take a look!

  • NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 Ultra GDDR3 Preview   [Preview, Beyond3d]
With the new high end cards announced and all utilising the latest GDDR3 memory, you may be forgiven if you overlooked the fact that these uber-expensive, and barely available, boards were not the first to bring the latest GDDR3 memory into consumers hands – it was in fact the second revision of the performance mainstream board GeForce FX 5700 Ultra that first supported the new memory type. Here Beyond3D takes a look at this newer version of the 5700 Ultra, comparing it against its GDDR-II counterpart.

  • BFG Asylum GeForce FX 5950 Ultra 256MB Review   [Review, AMDZone]
BFG Technologies have made a name for themselves with their Asylum line of video cards, putting out the latest in NVIDIA tech and trying to match the power of their namesake. BFG claim to target the needs of hardcore gamers because they are gamers them selves. Today, we put that to the test as we review the BFG Asylum GeForce FX 5950 Ultra 256MB and see how it matches up to ATI's Radeon 9800XT.

  • ATI's Radeon X800 series graphics processors (Plus NVIDIA's counterpunch)   [Review, TechReport]
BACK IN THE DAY, graphics geeks would demonstrate a new effect using a model of a teapot. Nowadays, the object of our graphics demos is the sexpot. And if the sexpot demo is a measure of a graphics card, the new Radeon X800 series wins, hands down. The X800 is ATI's second generation of DirectX 9-class GPUs with the floating-point datatypes that have taken real-time graphics to a new plane, and the Ruby demo ATI has created to show off its new GPU is simply stunning.

  • ATI All-In-Wonder 9600XT   [Review, Rage3d]
With their All-In-Wonder line going pretty much unopposed in the do-everything graphics card market, ATI keeps pushing out new models with more features and faster 3D performance on a seemingly monthly basis. Replacing the All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro, the recently released All-In-Wonder 9600XT is ATI's effort to keep the line fresh and to invite customers who want a graphics card with not only a wealth of multimedia features, but excellent 3D performance as well.

  • Radeon 9600XT vs GeForce FX 5900XT   [Review, LegionHardware]
The time for a good old fashion ATi vs. NVIDIA graphics card shoot out, has once again come. It may seem like an odd time to analyze the performance of the current generation graphics cards. However, I will not be looking at high-end solutions from these two manufacturers. Instead I feel there is no better time to take a closer look at the mid-range products. With the recent arrival of NVIDIA’s GeForceFX 5900XT GPU, things really have become more competitive than ever in the mainstream market. This new card really has the potential to boost NVIDIA’s mainstream sales. The GeForceFX 5700 Ultra has struggled to compete with the Radeon 9600XT in many tests, making it a less attractive solution.

  • Albatron FX5900 XTV   [Review, LegitReviews]
With the recent release of the GeForce 6 Series on April 13th, we must not forget the cards whose prices will drop. According to this Digitimes.com article, "Nvidia is offering discounts of 10%-20% to graphics card makers, with the goal of clearing out several million graphics processing units (GPUs) from inventory before the end of the first quarter of fiscal 2005, which ends April 30, according to sources at Taiwanese makers." So the price drop will not be immediate, but on its way. On that note, we are going to take a look at the Albatron FX5900 XTV VIVO solution. This card features the second most recent core released by nVidia: the FX5900XT.

Ever heard of Point of View? If you're resident in the U.K. like me, your reply will more than likely have been the same as mine: Point of Who? • Galaxy & Gainward GeForce FX 5900 XT's   [Review, Beyond3d]
Although the buzz has been around NVIDIA's newest high end introduction in the form of GeForce 6800 Ultra, this still presently accounts for the very high end and NVIDIA vendors are still looking to the FX range to fill in the lower end of the range. GeForce FX 5900 XT's are ostensibly high end chips brought into the mainstream and in this review Beyond3D takes a look at examples from both Galaxy and Gainward. "Overall the pixel shader results highlight that the 5900XT cards are a better option than the 5700 Ultra for games which have shaders forming a large portion of the rendering workload. When one looks at all of the results from the synthetic tests, it would seem that the XT models are the better option altogether, as most games will be limited by the fill rate and memory bandwidth of the graphics adapter, if it isn't CPU-bound."
