Naruto to be shown on Adult Swim (Cartoon Network)
Naruto is easily one of my favorite anime series to watch. I have been watching the subtitled episodes for quite some time. My wife and I could watch it for hours… probably days. The characters are great and the fights are mucho fun. ^_^
Anyways, I have to let some of my subsnobishness loose here since Cartoon Network picked up the Naruto series quite some time ago for playing during its Adult Swim block. The reason for putting my nose up in the air now is that Naruto hits our TV’s next month some time (saw a big ad about it in GamePro). I’m not looking forward to hearing how crappy the dubbed voices are… it’s painful sometimes for fans who love the Japanese versions with subtitles.
I really do hope that whoever is doing the dubbing does a nice job, but I’m doubtful based on Full Metal Alchemist, Samurai Champloo, Witch Hunter Robin and other good anime that gets the English butchering. It wouldn’t bother me as much I guess if you couldn’t always tell that they are using the same 4 damn voice actors for all series shown on CN… or at least it seems that way sometimes.
Yeah, I’m sure many of the same Japanese people are used for the original Japanese voice tracks of many series, but there’s just something about English dubs that rubs many of us the wrong way. There’s a loss of something… sometimes it’s hard to put a finger on it… but usually it’s the emotion or personality or other significant character aspects that get lost in the dubs.
So… in conclusion…
