Hurricane Katrina vs My Family’s Luck; Hurricane Relief
None of our family lives in the area of Katrina’s wrath, but two of my uncles, one of my aunts and a family friend narrowly escaped Katrina’s onslaught. They were fortunate enough to get plane tickets out of New Orleans and into Texas. The family friend’s friends actually went to the airport early to get the tickets. The looting that is going on can quickly remind you of how evil people can be, but the generosity and thoughtfulness of these two people truly show what humans are capable of and willing to do. It’s amazing and a blessing to have people like that on this Earth.
Although I call it luck in the title, I know better. I know it wasn’t luck or fate. My entire family feels grateful and blessed to have our family members and friend back home safe. If it weren’t for those two generous people, they might all be stuck in the miserable situation so many others are facing right now.
I wish the best to and pray for all those suffering now. One thing we all can do is give to the Red Cross, which is always so good about helping in situations like this. A little giving from a lot of people goes a long way.
